Hello,
my name is Claudio, I'm italian but living in the Netherlands. I just signed a leasing contract for the BYD Dolphin, it will be delivered in a few weeks (hopefully). Nice to meet oy all.
In the meanwhile I'm collecting as much info about it as I can. At the moment I think I will apply the following customizazions:
- disconnect the pedestrian fake engine sound. I like my car completely silent. Did anyone do it? Does it have any ill effects?
- install a dashcam, if the housing and cable are already present as shown in some videos.
- apply mudguards
- maybe request all-season tires, mostly to avoid the original chinese tires that seem so bad according to all reviewers
- possibly install Google Maps and/or other apps, provided the info I found on how to do it are correct.
New Dolphin leaser - hints?

I just got mine a couple of days ago, and in my experience quite some things are different with respect to previous reviews. To your points:
- sound can be changed between "brand" (ice cream truck) or "standard", the latter being ... the standard sound for hybrids or electric cars. If I'm not mistaken, the sound at low speeds is a legal requirement, so that might be an impact.
- in mine, housing is present, but the cable isn't. I'm not really sure if I want to try to install the cable...
- not an expert in the field, but here are some observations on the Ling Longs: wheelspin on a standing start in eco (!) mode; understeering; cute little dolphins on the tyres.
- AFAIK side loading has been fixed and isn't possible anymore in European versions, so Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are the only options. Btw, mine has wireless CarPlay which I didn't expect.

Hi - I’m in the UK and have had mine for about 10 weeks now.
The pedestrian noise in ‘standard’ is very quiet on my car.
I have covered 2,000 miles on the Lin Longs and not had an issue with wheel spin.
The ‘cross traffic breaking’ has activated about 6 times which can be quite alarming. Pulling out at a roundabout it put the breaks on as it was still registering the car that had passed and thought I was attempting to side swipe it.
